📍 Athens, May 14–16, 2025: The ODECO Final Conference on Open Data brought together researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to present cutting-edge work on building a user-driven, circular, and inclusive open data ecosystem.
This 3-day event marked the conclusion of the ODECO hashtag#Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network, involving 10 leading European universities and 15 Early Stage Researchers working on Open, Big, and Linked Data.
👉 We are proud that 3 of the 15 researchers are from the University of the Aegean in Samos — a strong reflection of our vibrant research community’s contribution to the future of data science in Europe.

Aegean Digital is an organization focused on the development and provision of educational programs in the fields of Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Governance. Aegean Digital is staffed by internationally recognized trainers and specialists in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, who come from the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering at the University of the Aegean, as well as from collaborating organizations and companies in Greece and abroad.

The educational programs of Aegean Digital are accredited and operate under the rules and conditions, as well as the financial oversight, of the Lifelong Learning Center (KEDIVIM) of the University of the Aegean. Thus, successful completion of Aegean Digital programs leads to the acquisition of a valid certification from KEDIVIM of the University of the Aegean, with recognition in both the Greek and international markets.

University of the Aegean @ DEFFEA 2025

The University of the Aegean actively participated in the PRAXI Network event held within the framework of DEFEA – Defence Exhibition Athens 2025, with the presence of the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Associate Professor Petros Kavassalis, highlighting the critical role of 𝒂𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 in the fields of 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚.
The event brought forward key themes:
✅ the promotion of technological innovation in the strategic defence sector,
✅ the connection between scientific knowledge and industrial application,
✅ and the opportunities for funding through the EU and the NATO Innovation Fund.
Bringing together representatives from the research, business, and policy-making communities, the event fostered a constructive dialogue on leveraging innovation to strengthen the national and European defence ecosystem.

It has certainly been a worthy visit at the Victoria University of Wellington in the very south of the north island, New Zealand.

Where, with dear professor Mary Tate we discussed on current PhD researchers and future collaborative projects in the area of social informatics, digital governance, AI applications and more.

Glad also to have met professor Michael Winikoff, head of school at VUoW.

Victoria University of Wellington is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious tertiary institutions with a proud tradition of academic excellence.
