Short bios

Demosthenes Vouyioukas is a Professor and Director of the Computer and Communication Systems Laboratory at the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean, Greece. His research interests include mobile and wireless communication systems, channel characterization and propagation models, performance modeling of wireless networks, cooperative wideband systems with relays, UWB indoor localization techniques, next generation mobile and satellite networks and 5G technologies. In this area, he has over 120 publications in scientific journals, books, book chapters and international conference proceedings. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Member of IEEE Communication Society of the Greek Section, a Member of IFIP and ACM and also a Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.

George Tsoulos is a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Peloponnese, Greece, and Director of the Wireless and Mobile Communications Laboratory. He has more than 160 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings, international books and book chapters, technical contributions to standards. He has been involved in pioneering European collaborative R&D projects, like TSUNAMI on smart antennas in the early 90’s, or COREnect on the European 6G strategy, more recently. His current research interests include advanced wireless communications systems, UAV and THz communications. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since 2002 and an elected representative in EurAAP since 2015. From 2013 to 2016, he has served as the R&D Vice Rector of the University of Peloponnese, Greece.

Charis Mesaritakis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information & Communication Systems Engineering at the University of the Aegean, Greece. In 2012 he was awarded a competitive European post-doctoral fellowship (Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE IEF) in the joint research facilities of Alcatel-Thales-Lucent in Paris-France, where he worked on devices for optical intra-satellite communications. He has actively participated as research engineer/associate in more than 10 EU-funded research programs (FP6-FP7-H2020) targeting excellence in cutting edge fields such as photonic neuromorphic computing, optical cyber-physical security, and next generation optical networks. Currently, he is serving as a technical manager for the EU funded H2020 NEoteRIC project, which targets the development of reconfigurable all-optical neural network schemes for ultra-fast signal processing, whereas he is also principal investigator in a competitive HFRI funded research project (NEBULA) focusing on photonic neuromorphic processors using photonic quantum dot devices. He is the author and co-author of more than 70 papers in highly cited peer reviewed international journals and conferences, three international book chapters, whereas he serves as a regular reviewer for IEEE, Springer, AIP and OSA.

Athanasios G. Kanatas, is a Professor at the Department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus, Greece and Director of the Telecommunication Systems Laboratory. He has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He is the author of 6 books in the field of wireless and satellite communications. He has been the technical manager of several European and National R&D projects. His current research interests include the development of new waveforms and digital techniques for next generation wireless systems; wireless channel characterization and modeling; antenna design and array beamforming for next generation wireless systems; V2V communications and cybersecurity issues for V2V communications. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since 2002. In 1999, he was elected Chairman of the Communications Society of the Greek Section of IEEE. From 2013 to 2017, he has served as Dean of ICT School of the University of Piraeus, Greece.

Nektarios Moraitis received the Diploma, and the Ph.D. degrees, all in electrical and computer engineering, from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1998, and 2005, respectively. In 1997 he joined the Mobile Radiocommunications Laboratory of National Technical University of Athens and in 2014 he became a teaching and research associate (faculty staff), School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens. He has involved in many research projects, including channel measurements, modeling, and characterization for wireless communication systems, and mobile satellite communication systems. He has also participated in European projects such as SatNEx I and II as well as in COST 273, 259, 2100 and IC0802 activities. He has more than 80 publications in international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters. His current research interests include millimeter wave propagation for next generation wireless communications systems, channel measurements, characterization, simulation and modeling for fixed and mobile communications systems, MIMO technology for mobile satellite systems, and biological effects of electromagnetic radiation.
