This research is an in-depth look into the economic dimension of privacy. Privacy remains an important issue for electronic commerce and behind privacy intrusion there is often an economic trade-off. Individuals want to avoid the misuse of the information but at the same time they want to share enough information to achieve interactions; enterprises and organisations want to know more about those with which they interact, but they do not want to alienate them with policies deemed as intrusive.<\/p>\n

Our aim is to develop and apply techniques, processes and measures that protect privacy, as well as to contribute in a conceptual model which applies an economic point of view to the study of Privacy and Personal Data Protection.<\/p>\n

Specifically, privacy economics research includes the following goals:<\/p>\n

i. Consumers’ behavior analysis regarding to Privacy Enhancing Technologies – PET and measures to protect their privacy, emphasizing to e-commerce envirinments.<\/p>\n

ii. The Requirements Attributes that Privacy Enhancing Technologies – PET must have, so that they become acceptable and can be used effectively. <\/p>\n

iii. The development of a decision-making model for investments in Data Protection, Information Privacy and Security Measures, which would take into account that “Risk” cannot be eliminated entirely as it arises in individuals’ daily transactions.<\/p>\n

iv. The development of a general model that would allow the economic empact assessment method of alternative regulatory measures for data privacy protection.<\/p>\n
